not important enough for cfo, since i've pretty much been on hiatus anyway, but i'm moving tomorrow, and have no idea what my internet situation at the new apartment will be until we get our cable hooked up, or how long that's going to take.

Christmas Presents from Sophie
Dec. 23rd, 2007 | 11:29 pm
if you want to play out gift-giving, feel free to comment here or poke me.
Francescu: a leather-bound journal and fountain pen. on the first page is the following:
Francescu,
I have heard told that sometimes writing suffices to lessen the burdens in one's mind while still keeping one's own counsel. You will forgive me for not placing the requisite enchantments to maintain privacy myself, I trust.
I love you.
Sophie
there is also a small box of maple candy.
Terry: TBA
Crowley: a pair of cufflinks. they're spherical and seemingly mismatched. one has a center that's a vivid blue, and the other's center is gold. inside is the following note:
Angel,
Be yourself.
Pet
Tim: a notebook containing a brief history of Sophie's world, complete with sketches of dragons, castles, etc., and a basic explanation of both sorcery and the Realms of power. On the first page is a note that says:
Tim,
You've taught me so much of your world. Consider this me attempting to return the favor.
Sophie
Robin: a small plate of cookies, a picture of Robin and Violet working on something together in the labs, and a selection of hard-to-salvage car parts. There's also a short note that boils down to an offer to spar/train whenever he'd like.
Imoen: one of those puzzle boxes. at the center is a folded-up pouch intended for carrying spell ingredients made of double-layered silk. it perfectly matches her hair.
Jaime: TBA
Yuki: cake. also a few small tins of herbal teas, with note of their ingredients and properties.
Shuichi: a handwritten booklet of easy recipes that involve a minimum of chopping and other difficult kitchen practices, along with a note inviting him to ask her to show him how to bake them.
Max: an album of pictures of the Boys' 15 crowd, a plate of her favorite kind of cookies, and a copy of this image. on the back it says he showed me this once, so I could understand the world.
Pell: a set of clips for his hair made of twisted silver wire with green and blue stones, a half-dozen blueberry muffins, and a tin of cocoa.
Aziraphale: a plate of cinnamon scones and a tin of complementing cocoa.

Summary of events: Sophie-mun fails at life, things transpire, personal emo, etc.
Result: I'm moving back up to Pennsylvania on Sunday. Barring terrible things going wrong, all my things are moving on Saturday. I am a ball of stress and freaking out (seriously, everyone, give cookies to Fran for putting up with me flailing at him all the damn time. best brother evar). Once I do move, my internets time is probably going to be limited by my parents only having dial-up and my finite patience levels, unless I can get at a neighbor's wireless or something. I have no idea how long this will continue, because I don't have any idea what's going to happen once I move. I only pretend to be an adult, seriously.
What this means for you: until I move, my flakiness level is likely to be over nine-thousand. Seriously. If I drop a thread, this is not because I don't love you, it's because I have the attention span of a goldfish on crack and should be throwing things into boxes. Once I do move, I may not be around as much. This may also be a total lie! Either way, it definitely does not mean I don't want to play. Because I do. With you, probably! I don't know how well the dialup is going to be able to handle huge posts, so my ability to jump people may be severely reduced. It's all still theoretical, and man, let me tell you how I hate that. Please please please POKE ME if you want to thread/pick up a thread/listen to me make squee noises at you/whatever.
Righto, nothing else to see here, go back about your business.

So I was going to answer that 'state of the love life' meme, but then I realized that my loev of talking unnecessarily would make it long and drawn-out. Sophie is a little ball of attraction issues, most of them stemming from the fact that, solitary and odd as she has been her entire life, she doesn't even really try to befriend people who don't ping her pretty damn hard, and so she ends up attracted to most of them in one way or another. Most of it is more fascination and less sexual, but it's still true.
So.
( As Sophie's Brain Turns, and turns and turns. )

Not worth putting up a note in CFO for, but just as a heads-up to ye who I play with often. April is kind of a bad month for me, memory-wise, and it seems to be hitting harder and sooner this year than I'd expected. This doesn't mean hiatus or anything like that, but it does mean that there are a few hot-button issues closer to the surface right now than I'd like. The big one is the CFUD community's use of the word 'rape' in the context of funny. I'm not asking anyone to change or making a big deal, because this is a personal issue, but right now rape, raep, and all the rest of it? Just very, very unhumorous and triggering to me.
Bottom line is that while I'm still probably going to be idling in IRC, there's a high likelihood that IRC is not actually going to be up on my screen, or, alternately, that I'll be watching the chan. I don't have sound pings, so this means that if you pm me or talk to me, there's a high likelihood I'll miss it until I check back randomly. This doesn't mean I don't want to chat! PLEASE feel free to email me, talk to me on gchat, tell someone who I'm probably already talking to (Francescu jumps to mind) that I've got a pm, whatever works! I love you all and you're awesome, I'm just trying to keep myself mostly together until this passes again.

I said that one day I was going to do a post that spelled out Sophie's icon progressions, since they're pretty fixed and an easier way than her actual speech to tell how she's reacting to something.

Meme of many things
Mar. 5th, 2007 | 05:23 pm
Ganking Shunsui's meme, because hey, it's easy! And distracting. Always a plus.
Clothing/appearance:
Sophie is wearing mostly-modern clothes now. She prefers clothing that's easy to move in, and favors cotton, linen, and blends over purely manmade fabrics. Most of her clothing is simple, in solid colors, with a minimum of adornment. On any given day, she's likely to be wearing jeans and a t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt depending on the weather, or a sweater if it's cold. Her home climate is a northern-Europe equivalent, probably British Isles, so she's used to freezing, damp winters and finds camp fairly mild. Despite a general lack of modesty, Sophie tends to choose clothes that cover her body, and will continue wearing pants or long skirts into the summer. She likes her tops either fitted over her torso (she's a big convert to camis and stretchy shirts) or loose all over. She's also big on belts, because most of her pants are a little too big. Around the cabin and for sleeping she either wears one of Terry's shirts or a cami and loose, stretchy-knit sleep pants. She'd sleep naked, but doesn't as a concession to her cabinmates.
ETA: Crowley, demonic not!daddy that he is, abused his powers a little and made Sophie clothes that actually fit. The big change here being that Sophie is now wearing clothes (or at least some clothes) that all fit properly, instead of being mostly too big. They are probably also more fashionable circa Crowley's version of 'now' (which is to say 2004ish, I think?).
Appearance-wise, Sophie is 5'3 if she stands up straight, has dark hair down past her waist, and is a bit underweight. Her body type is pretty athletic, and she doesn't have much in the way of breasts or hips. She's a bit more bony/sinewy than her avatar. Her hair is usually down, and if she needs it out of her way she just ties it in a knot or braids it and doesn't tie off the braid.
Habits/mannerisms/body language:
Sophie's body language is very directly related to her level of comfort and affection for a person, but overall it's pretty guarded. Someday I will actually do a post showing icon progression, but right now I'm lazy. In general, Sophie tends to stand slightly apart from most people, and she slouches a bit, which makes her appear shorter than she is. Her facial expressions are pretty much icon accurate, and her default expressions in conversation tend toward wryness. Smiles are generally only for people she actually likes, unless something really amusing happens, and she doesn't laugh easily. In fact, she's not that given to displays of any sort of extreme emotion. Tommy refers to this as her 'britishness', and that's kind of accurate. Sophie has seen so much that she's generally pretty unflappable, and if she is emo, she hides it from everyone but people that she trusts a lot. In general, Sophie is unused to being around people and very socially unsure. She doesn't like being in large groups of people, and tends to get twitchy and nervous, or simply withdraw.
All that said, Sophie's a fidgeter. Her hands are almost always moving, and if she's trying to hide her reactions she tends to keep them in her pants pockets or put her thumbs in her beltloops. There is a set of keys that she always keeps on her person and tends to play with when she's nervous. She also has a green enamel bracelet that she plays with all the time, not necessarily when she's nervous. Or she handwrings and twists her fingers. If she's got something in her hand, she's probably playing with it somehow.
People who pay attention to such things could probably notice that Sophie doesn't move quite right. Her motions tend to be more fluid than is strictly human, and she doesn't really carry herself like someone of her weight and height. She's very sure of her own body, and moves with confidence that pretty much entirely contradicts her social unsureness. Her body is stronger, faster, and more flexible than it should be. This is because Sophie is a skinchanger, canonically capable of becoming anything in the world, including many aspects of different things simultaneously. She is unlikely to be ever walking around in an entirely normal, unshifted body, although these shifts aren't usually visible.
Current residence:
Boys' 15. She also has a room in Crowley's flat in the library.
Typical daily routine:
Sophie gets up early, although she's like as not to lay in bed until Terry gets up, if she wakes before he does. Some days she eats in the mess hall, other days she makes her own meals. Her schedule isn't really very set, but any given day includes some sort of baking, talking to Tommy (high probability that this occurs WHILE baking), reading, and messing around with her laptop/watching cartoons/reading comics. Several times a week she trains with Tim, and several other times a week, she gives Violet Baudelaire self-defense lessons. Francescu and Violet get checked-in with daily, but most of Sophie's other people live with her. In the afternoon and evening she'll go out and be social if there's something going on.
At night, Sophie goes to bed with her cabinmates, sleeps for an hour or two, and then is up again. Depending on her mood and possibly the weather, she either stays in and reads (yes, in the dark), or goes out and practices her speedstering, kills trees, just sits up in trees, etc. Mostly she spends the night burning off energy that she doesn't during the day. Sometimes she chats with Tim, or other people that are up, but mostly she keeps to herself. She will also go check in on Francescu and visit with Crowley. Two hours or so before everyone gets up, she'll go back to bed and sleep until the cabin gets up.
As of late Sophie has also been spending nights in Crowley's flat. She will go out and burn off energy, but she tends to be less anxious there.
Favorite haunts:
Her cabin, the forest, the clear public areas of camp, the hotel (to see her siblings), Crowley's flat, library proper.
Does she make her own bed?:
Sometimes. Only if she's in a cleaning or fussy mood, or if she just washed the bed linen. It doesn't matter to her whether the bed is made.
